Cubans Can Own A Personal Computer Now

I was shocked that Cubans are not allow to own a personal computer (PC). In recent weeks, Cuba new President Raul Castro had lifted the ban on PC ownership by the citizen of Cuba. They still can’t have Internet access at home because ban on Internet access at home has not been lifted except for trusted officials and state journalists. Luckily, the Cuba citizen still can have Internet access restricted in certain workplaces, schools and universities. After all, I hope this change is good for Cubans. Hooray!

Counting Down to Tom Cruise Website Launch

If you are not aware, Tom Cruise is launching his website on Monday May 5, 2008 plus he bought Google AdWords to promote his website. I am not a fan of him but I am looking forward to see whatever it is happening in TomCruise.com later today. There is a nicely done Flash-based countdown timer appearing on the website (please see screenshot above). Stay tuned and check it out yourself!

Slackware 12.1

I am a fan of Slackware. I am very excited to hear the release announcement of Slackware 12.1 on 2 May 2008 by Patrick Volkerding and the Slackware team. Slackware 12.1 has many improvements over the older release of Slackware 12.0 includes supporting of 2.6 kernel. It is a must install for any Linux users that have not tried Slackware and it is a must upgrade for any Slackware users. You can read more details on the improvements from Slackware’s official announcement.

I will wait for the ISO to release and download it as soon as possible from web. If you can’t wait, you can download the ISO via BitTorrent here. I can’t afford to order a single DVD set of Slackware 12.1 for $59.95 plus shipping. If you can afford it, please consider purchasing the Slackware Linux 12.1 directly from Slackware Linux to support the continued development of Slackware Linux!

Generating Dummy Text for Websites

Have you heard of loren ipsum? It is a commonly used dummy text for printing, web designing and typesetting to demonstrate a document and visual presentation. I stumbled upon this handy website which gives you the flexibility to generate dummy text in loren ipsum. You have the option to change number of words, number of characters, number of paragraphs as well as to display the HTML paragraph < p > tag.

In advanced options, you have the ability to adjust for your preferred font family, font weight, font style, font size, letter spacing, line height, text transform, text decoration and text alignment. If you can’t read loren ipsum, you can change the dummy text to the type that you can read. Isn’t this cool? I found it is a very handy tool for web designers.
