DiGi to launch 3G services by mid 2008
This is a great news to all the broadband users in Malaysia. DiGi.Com Bhd (DiGi) is offering Time DotCom Bhd (TDC) over RM700mil for the transfer of TDC’s 3G spectrum to DiGi. This 3G spectrum is very important to DiGi to provide additional services to the marketplace. This involves DiGi’s utilisation of TDC’s fibre optic network in this partnership deal to develop broadband services for Malaysian until the last-mile connectivity. There is a possibility of DiGi offering WiMAX services via TDC.
It is time to change for DiGi to be the fastest growing broadband company in the country. At the same time, Telenor has reduced it stake in DiGi from 61% to 49% to meet the year end deadline to comply with regulations and expand their businesses in the country (a cap on foreigners owning more than 50%).
DiGi will now compete with other 3G spectrum license providers like Maxis, MiTV and Telekom Malaysia. DiGi - Always the smarter choce, ![]()
