Celcom Digi Maxis Mobile Wireless Broadband
What does Malaysia mobile telco; Celcom, Digi and Maxis is offering you to have Internet access while you’re on the move? In Malaysia, Celcom, Digi and Maxis is offering the mobile wireless broadband service with different packages such as data basic plan, data lite plan and data unlimited plan. I will emphasis only on data unlimited plan. The data unlimted plan from these mobile telco is suitable for their high data usage subscribers. It provides total mobility to the subscribers to move around. This is an alternative to wired broadband. The subscribers will not need to worry about the total data usage and time usage. I will emphasis only on EDGE and 3G network.

Celcom provides their mobile wireless broadband service through Celcom Broadband. It runs on 3G network with the bandwidth of 384kbps. The monthly charges is RM68. Digi provides their mobile wireless broadband service through DiGi HighSpeed Mobile Access. It runs on EDGE network with the bandwidth of 224kbps. The monthly charges is RM66. Maxis provides their mobile wireless broadband service through Maxis Broadband. It runs on 3G network with the bandwidth of 384kbps. The monthly charges is RM68.
I am a ex-subscriber of DiGi HighSpeed Mobile Access. I have to subscribe to this service. This is because when I moved to my new house there is no landline and at that time DiGi HighSpeed Mobile Access is the cheapest among their two mobile telco. The monthly charges I paid is RM99 whereas the other two mobile telco is charge RM120 per month. I can tell you that the speed while I am using it inside my house is same as a modem speed. The public IP address assigned is the same when I used my mobile phone as a modem to connect from my notebook. I have to cope with it. There is no contract bound to this service. I had terminated their service after my house’s landline is installed and I am enjoying wired broadband at home now.
Recently, I signed up Celcom Broadband’s data unlimited plan to enabled myself to perform some freelance work while I am on the move. I didn’t purchase any 3G USB modem or 3G PCMCIA card. I am using this service with my existing mobile phone. I just need to upgrade my existing sim card to a 3G capable sim card. The public IP address assigned is the same when I used my mobile phone as a modem to connect from my notebook. So, they do not provide dynamic public IP addresses. I had performed 3 download and upload test. This test is done inside my house. So, do not take my result to compare with yours because you might get higher or lower. It is all depends on how good the signal you are getting from the tower. You can see the screenshots attached below.

As for Maxis, I do have plan to subscribe it for the purpose of testing but they have a contract of 18 months. This is the reason that I do not want to subscribe it for the sake of testing only. Lastly, I would like to remind all my readers is Celcom has implemented the fair excessive usage of 5GB per month. Digi has nothing. Maxis also implemented the fair excessive usage of 3GB per month.
So, do plan wisely on which mobile wireless broadband you want to subscribe.

Hey splendid post mate! Always been tempted to try one of these … mebbe the next u’d like to have a look at izzi? or have u already done so?

Jason, I haven’t try iZZi. The monthly charges is expensive compare to Celcom, Digi and Maxis. The attempting part is the speed. They are providing 1Mbps. They don’t cover Cyberjaya.

Nice tips. Yes, it is best if we test the performance first before deciding to take the full offer. Heard many cases where customers were left disappointed with the quality of the broadband speed.
As for me, I’d continue using streamyx (lucky there’s no major problem so far), unless until a need for me to go mobile frequently arises.

Dear Wingloon, just wonder what 384 kbps as offered by Celcom can offer (interm of speed, I mean). I’m currently using wired streamyx 100 mbps and it has a fairly good speed.

Zul, continue with Streamyx is a wise choice if nothing bad happen. I would agree with you on that.
Sam, the speed may vary. Its really depends on the Line-on-Site (LoS). The wired Streamyx 100Mbps you referring is wrong. The 100Mbps is your network interface card speed and not Streamyx speed.

looking forward for the 4G technology to emerge by end of this year.hopefully WiMAX Forum can really achieve 100Mbps for mobile and 1Gbps for fixed!the “4G” technology promoted by iZZi is just a gimmick eh.lol..

sanji, I will not put so high hope that Malaysia’s ISP will be able to provide 100Mbps for mobile and 1Gbps for fixed.
Just give me 4Mbps for mobile and 8Mbps for fixed. Both synchronous speed will do, LOL.
Yep, iZZi “4G” is a gimmick,
January 26th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Yup a gimmick. If you realize on their ads the largest word is 4G but no where on the same ad will you see the speed started. Maybe in the fine print….

Wireless broadband is not really the best internet connection you can get. Although they can be used as substitute connection for cable line connection. They still do the job. But not on extreme weather conditions like rain.

Aku duduk Sg Ramal Dalam/kajang/@tol kajang.Guna streamyx share dengan jiran pakej 1MB . HAMPEH. Try Celcom 3G, Sg Ramal Luar ok.
