Dynamic DNS Client for Namecheap
As promised from my previous post, I will write about using Dynamic DNS Client for Namecheap in Linux and Windows. I am using ddclient to update a Dynamic DNS record in Linux and I am using Namecheap Dynamic DNS Client to update a Dynamic DNS record in Windows. Both these software are free.
For ddclient in Linux, you can download it from the source link below. I will not write about how to install it because it is simple and most of use can do it. Below is my ddclient configuration file located at /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf and the important part you need to remember is the last line. If your Dynamic DNS record is blog.example.com, you just need to put in as blog and not blog.example.com because you will end up not getting what you want. The login is your domain name (eg: example.com) and password is your domain name Dynamic DNS password you created during enabling the Dynamic DNS feature in Namecheap.

You can now run the ddclient binary file to begin updating your Dynamic DNS record. To lookup on the Dynamic DNS record, run this command ‘host blog.example.com’ and it will display the IP address similar as below.

For Namecheap Dynamic DNS Client in Windows, you can download it from the source link below. Unzip the file after download. It is pretty straight forward. Just fill in the necessary information. Click on the ‘Start’ button to begin the update.

Thank you. I am still working on it. Is there something else we have to fill in the ‘All Host Records’ page of the namecheap site?
